Trivia and bios:
We give annual performances to support various community organizations in Minot.
David Herzig (violinist) and John Jermiason (violist) are the founding members of the group
which began in 1995 as the "The Town and Country Quartet". The original name of the group
alluded to the fact that David and John are both farmers and the other members lived in town.
David Herzig, violinist, is a native of Minot. While in Minot he studied with Virginia Geesaman,
violin and Walter Hartman, piano. Mr. Herzig graduated from Duke University with A.B.
magna cum laude and J.D. degrees. While at Duke University he studied with Giorgio Ciompi,
and spent several summers at the Kneisel Hall Chamber Music Institute, Blue Hill, Maine.
John Jermiason, violist, graduated from St. Olaf College, cum laude with dual majors in Music
Theory and Psychology. He has composed a number of unpublished pieces for solo viola as well
as organ and small group compositions. He also attended North Dakota State University with
an A.S. in Agriculture and Minot State University where John earned a BA in Elementary
Education. He has been the principal violist in the Minot Symphony Orchestra since 1984.
Julianne Boren,cellist, has performed across the United States and in South Korea and Thailand
as a member of the Orenunn Trio. She has held positions with the St. Joseph Symphony,
Topeka Symphony, and Lawrence Chamber Orchestra, and has also played with the Wichita
Symphony. She has taught at the K.C. Strings Conservatory and Baker University.
Valerie Tweten Torres, violinist,is our newest member. She graduated from Minot High School
in 2007 and was the principal violinist with the High School Orchestra. She has attended Minot
State University and plays in the Minot Symphony Orchestra. Valerie was the 2006 Music
Festival Outstanding Soloist award winner and in 2007 her string trio was the co-winner of the
High School competition at Dakota Chamber Music.
